DETERMINATION OF TEMPERATURE INDUCED X-RAY SOURCE SHIFTS IN A CT SCANNER
X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is a non-destructive imaging technique widely applied in dimensional metrology for precise measurement of complex geometries. However, its accuracy can be affected by thermal effects. A major challenge is the presence of an active heat source in the metrology loop, causing temperature-dependent variations in the measurement object as well as scanner’s internal components. These thermal variations can undermine accuracy and introduce uncertainties that are challenging to quantify and mitigate. This paper investigates the impact of temperature fluctuations on the displacement of the source in a CT scanner. Temperature measurements were acquired at key locations, including the circulating coolant system. Based on these measurements, the thermal fluxes dissipated from the system were calculated. Thermal displacement of the radiation source was measured using inductive probes and by tracking the displacement of a reference projection.

She graduated in 2022 from the undergraduate and in 2024 from the graduate studies in mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Zagreb (FSB). Since 2024, she has been a junior researcher on the SensMonCT II project at the FSB's Chair of Measurement and Control of the Department of Quality.
