THE USE OF WASTE HEAT FOR COOLING PURPOSES ONBOARD SHIPS
To decarbonize the maritime sector, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has introduced increasingly stringent energy efficiency measures, mandating higher efficiency in ship energy systems. One promising solution to address this challenge is the utilization of waste heat and cold from a ship’s main and auxiliary engines. By harnessing waste energy for cooling purposes, auxiliary engines can reduce fuel consumption, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of the ship’s power systems. This article aims to explore potential methods for integrating waste heat and cold with the refrigeration system of a passenger ship. Additionally, it analyzes the cold recovery potential from LNG vaporization and compares it to both absorption and conventional refrigeration systems.

He graduated in 2019 from the undergraduate and 2020 from the graduate studies in mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Zagreb (FSB). In addition, he is currently a doctoral student at the FSB. In the period 2020 - 2024, he was a junior researcher on a project at the FSB's Chair of Thermal and Process Engineering of the Department of Thermodynamics, Thermal and Process Engineering.

Naglasak je pri tome na američkim i europskim iskustvima u vezi uvođenja i primjene tehnologije na trećoj i četvrtoj razini autonomije (SAE klasifikacija).
